SEO, short for search engine optimisation, makes sure your pages are found in Google search. GEO, short for generative engine optimisation, makes sure AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Overviews know your business and describe it correctly. Both rest on readable pages, clear content and a well-kept profile, but they are measured differently.
What do you measure in SEO, and what in GEO?
In SEO what counts is the position of your pages for certain search terms and how often they are clicked.
In GEO what counts is whether your business appears in the answer to a typical customer question, how it is described and who is named in your place. There is no position there, only the answer.
Why is SEO alone no longer enough?
When an AI summary sits above the results, people click less. Pew Research measured this in the USA: with an AI summary, 8 percent of visits ended with a click on a search result; without a summary it was 15 percent.
In Germany, according to Bitkom, 24 percent often use the AI summary in search engines without looking at the search results. Whoever is missing there is not seen by them.

Do I need anything different for GEO than for SEO?
Less than is often claimed. For its AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google states plainly that there are no additional requirements: a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in search with a snippet.
What helps is content that answers a question directly, the same details on every page and mentions of your business elsewhere on the web. For ChatGPT your website must also be reachable for OpenAI's crawler OAI-SearchBot.

What can I do myself, and what not?
You can keep the website copy, the Google profile and a questions section up to date yourself. Measuring is the hard part: you would have to put the same questions to several AI systems every day and compare the answers.
Agentiq Visibility does both in one service: content, profile and technical check, plus 25 to 400 search terms on Google and 50 to 400 questions a day to AI systems, depending on the tier.

Frequently asked questions
Is GEO just a new word for SEO?
Not quite. The foundations are the same, but the goal is different: a mention in an answer instead of a position in a list. That is why it is measured differently.
What does AEO mean?
Answer engine optimisation, optimising for answer engines. At its core it means the same as GEO.
Does Agentiq guarantee first place or a mention in ChatGPT?
No. Where a search engine or an AI system shows you is decided by its provider. We build the groundwork, measure regularly and show honestly what changes.
Do you buy links or reviews?
No. No bought links, no bought and no filtered reviews.
What does Agentiq Visibility cost?
Agent €99, Team €299 and Department €499 a month, net, plus VAT. The first 14 days are free, after that the contract can be cancelled monthly.
