In short

A good Google Business Profile is complete, matches your website and is kept up to date. Google names three factors for the order of local results: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot influence distance, but you can influence relevance and prominence, with accurate details, described services, photos and replies to reviews.

How does Google order the results on the map?

According to Google, local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance means how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from where the search happens. Prominence describes how well known your business is, online and locally.

Reviews are part of it: according to Google, more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. A better ranking cannot be requested or bought from Google.

Which details belong in the profile?

Name, address, phone number and website, opening hours, the kind of business as a category and the services you offer. Google names complete and accurate details explicitly as the basis for a good local ranking.

Describe services the way customers search for them, “gutter cleaning” rather than “services”. And keep the details the same as on your website.

How important are photos?

Photos show customers what to expect: your premises, your team, your work. Google recommends adding photos and videos to the profile.

Use real pictures instead of stock photos and replace them when something changes.

How do I handle reviews?

Reply to reviews, good and bad, factually and politely. According to Google, replies show that you value your customers' feedback.

Google's policies forbid rewards for reviews such as discounts or free services, asking only happy customers for positive reviews, and reviews from a conflict of interest, for example by employees. Google removes such content.

How often should I update the profile?

Whenever something changes: a new service, different opening hours, a holiday closure, new photos. With posts you show news and offers right in the profile.

Agentiq Visibility keeps details, services and posts current so that you appear correctly on the map, and shows in the monthly report where you stand.
